Twenty ensuite bedrooms steps away from the most consistent surf break in Costa Rica. Nine private residences. Every detail handled.

The Surf Club

Playa Guiones stretches for five kilometres of protected coastline, breaking with a consistency that's rare even by Costa Rica's standards. With a sandy bottom, no reef and warm water year-round, it rewards beginners and satisfies experienced surfers in equal measure, which is why the people who know where the best breaks are tend to keep this one close.
At the Surf Club, a dedicated surf concierge takes care of everything before you reach the water. Guests can choose from a curated collection of forty Jim Banks performance surfboards, each one shaped specifically for Guiones' soft, rolling waves, waxed, leashed, and colour-coded for effortless selection. Your personal surf locker keeps your gear ready between sessions, and on-site showers mean you can come and go from the water within a thirty-second walk without returning to your residence.
Private coaching with ISA-certified instructors, a kids' surf camp for younger guests, surf boat charters to uncrowded point breaks beyond Guiones, and mixed-ability session structures for groups, means every element of a surf stay is available through the Surf Club and your concierge arranges it all in advance.

Dry Season

December – April

Offshore winds shape the Pacific swells into clean, well-defined waves with long, peeling rides. Blue skies and consistent morning conditions make this the most popular season for experienced surfers and the best time for form and reliability.

Green Season

June – August, November

The most powerful swells of the year arrive with the wet season. Mornings are typically clear and excellent for surfing, with brief tropical showers in the afternoon that clear quickly. For those who want size and energy in the water, this is when Guiones delivers its most impressive conditions.

Quiet Season

May, September – October

The quietest and most peaceful months on the beach. The waves are still consistently surfable, mornings are calm, and the crowd, never large by the standards of better-known breaks, thins considerably. The best rates and highest availability for those who want the place largely to themselves.
Humpback whale migration runs from July through October, sea turtle nesting at nearby Ostional peaks August through November and dolphins are present along the coastline year-round.

Why Nosara

Nosara sits on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica's Guanacaste province, one of the world's five Blue Zones, where the culture of daily movement, good food, and time outdoors is woven into everyday life. For surfers, it offers something less common, a world-class break on a coastline that strict environmental regulations have kept low-density, undeveloped, and largely unchanged.
Playa Guiones runs for five kilometres of protected coastline. From the water, the view is the Pacific on one side and untouched jungle on the other, there’s no beachfront construction or high-rises and the waves are consistent, the water is warm, and the town beyond the beach offers quality dining, respected wellness practitioners, and a community of people who arrived for the surf and found reasons to stay.
With more than 330 rideable days a year, it's one of the most consistent breaks in the Americas.

Frequently Asked Questions

THE WAVES & THE BREAK

+
What makes Playa Guiones a good surf spot?
Guiones offers over 330 rideable days a year on a consistent, well-shaped break that works across all levels. Sandy bottom, no reef, and warm water year-round. The beach runs for over five kilometres of protected coastline, which means it rarely feels crowded even when conditions are good. Offshore winds in dry season produce clean, peeling waves. The wet season brings the most powerful swells of the year.
What are the water conditions like?
Water temperatures hold between 79 and 84°F (26–29°C) throughout the year. No wetsuit required in any season. The break is reliably gentle enough for beginners at its most consistent, and offers real challenge for experienced surfers when the swells are up.
Is Guiones suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. The sandy bottom, forgiving wave shape, and warm water make it one of the most beginner-friendly breaks in Costa Rica. The surf concierge will match you with the right board and the right coach before you reach the water.

THE BOARD COLLECTION & SURF CLUB

+
What is the Jim Banks surfboard collection?
A curated selection of forty performance boards shaped by Jim Banks specifically for the conditions at Playa Guiones. The collection spans a full range of sizes and shapes, from wider, more stable boards for beginners to performance shortboards for experienced surfers. All boards are waxed, leashed, and colour-coded. The collection is complimentary for every guest.
How do I choose the right board?
Your surf concierge guides the selection based on your experience level, height, and the conditions on the day. You don’t need to arrive knowing what you’re looking for.
What facilities does the Surf Club have?
Personal surf lockers for every guest, on-site shower facilities, and a dedicated surf concierge. The Surf Club and all its equipment are reserved exclusively for Silvestre guests, no public access.

LESSONS, COACHING & KIDS' CAMP

+
What do private surf lessons include?
Each session runs approximately 1.5 hours, in the water with an ISA-certified coach. Video capture is included throughout, with a land-based review session afterwards so you can see your progression and receive precise feedback. Lessons are available for every level, from complete beginners to experienced surfers working on specific technique.
Can our group surf together if we’re at different levels?
Yes. Sessions are structured so everyone surfs simultaneously on the same beach. Beginners work in the whitewater, intermediates progress on green waves, and more experienced surfers take the outer break. The surf concierge designs the structure around the group’s specific range of abilities in advance.
What is the kids' surf camp, and who is it for?
The kids' surf camp pairs Guiones’ warm, gentle conditions with experienced instructors who stay in the water alongside each young surfer throughout the session. Instruction runs from the first beach pop-up through to catching green waves independently, at the child’s own pace. Sessions are available for young beginners and can be arranged individually or as part of a wider family programme at the property.
